Fluffymania Cat Café

I was curious to visit Fluffymania Cat Café in the district of Bausher, Muscat. If you are a cat-lover (like me), I would recommend a visit to the first and only cat café in Muscat. It will allow you to enjoy a coffee/tea surrounded by feline friends. And, if you live here, you can even adopt one to become a beloved pet.

When you enter the Fluffymania Café, you won’t initially be greeted by a chorus of cats. You first need to pay an entrance fee of 2.50 OMR, which includes a drink (labelled ‘a free drink’) and this will allow you to stay for one hour.

In the cat café area, there are tables and chairs of different sizes. This is a place of joy for children and adults alike as they can pet and play with the cats. When visiting, I found 18 cats of a wide variety of types: an enormous Main Coon, long haired Turkish cats, thin and short-haired Omani cats and others. 8 kittens will join the group in 2 or 3 months.

1) 3 Reasons why you should visit this place:

Spending time with these animals and petting them will definitely reduce your stress level – although, if you drink a lot of coffee, it might not quite work! Actually, during my visit, I ended up laughing on several occasions because the cats just do such funny things.

So, in visiting Fluffymania Cat Café, you will also contribute to this cause. What’s more, all of the cats (except for the Maine Coon) can be adopted.

The fact that visitors can only stay for one hour means the place is not overly crowded – which is important.

2) Getting there

Fluffymania Cat Café is located in Bausher in Muscat. It is very easy to find a parking space nearby.

3) A little history about Cat Cafés.

According to Wikipedia, the very first cat café started in Taipei, Taiwan. It turns out that this is not quite true. Even before this café, there were cafés with cats in them (they didn’t call themselves ‘cat cafés’ at the time!). But Cat Flower Garden (貓花園) – the one in Taipei – became very popular due to a TV programme. Locals started coming as well as Japanese tourists who loved the idea and eventually started their own cat cafés in Japan. It became so well known that the term ‘cat café’ even entered the Oxford Dictionary of English in 2015.

Actually, the owners of Fluffymania first started a Cat Café in Dubai (called Ailuromania) in 2015. That one is temporarily closed. Fluffymania opened in 2022.

4) Highlights

4.1 The cats are well looked after.

Fluffymania actually has rules to protect the cats. For example, they cannot be picked up or woken up. I found this really good as it could lead to mishandling of the animals.

4.2 The entry pass includes a drink

The entry fee is 2.50 OMR and it includes the choice of a drink: water, a soda, coffee, or tea.

4.3 A great family outing

Children particularly enjoy being able to spend time with the cats. This is a great way for them to become acquainted with them if they have never had the opportunity to see them and touch them.

  1. Very nice, I loved it. Although I am from Oman, this is the first time I have heard about this type of cafe. I liked your arrangement of the topic, as it is comprehensive and covers the cafe from several aspects. You took me on a virtual tour of this cafe, and now I hope to visit it soon.

    Thanks 🌹
