Welcome to Joussour to Oman

Hello. I’m Christine. I’ve been living and working in Oman for the past five years, and this country is the reason Joussour to Oman exists.

Oman welcomes visitors warmly, yet living and working here has shown me, time and again, how much is happening beyond the surface — beyond what most guidebooks and travel websites explain.

Everyday interactions, social cues, and context shape daily life in subtle ways, and understanding them takes more than planning routes or booking accommodation.

For me, this is both the most challenging and the richest part.

How I came into this story

I’m originally from France, where I was born and raised. With a British mother, a Dutch father, and American grandparents, I grew up between cultures and became fascinated with travel and cross-cultural exchange at a young age.

After studying psychology in the United States, I pursued postgraduate studies in journalism, specializing in the power of narrative. Later, while living in Barcelona, I attended art school (painting and installation work).

What I learned from psychology, journalism, and art school wasn’t just for me. It showed me a way to travel that is both deeply felt and creatively documented. This is the approach I now share through Joussour to Oman.

While living in Barcelona, I also began working with Syrian refugees. This led me to meet a young woman named Manar. Her strength in the face of deep trauma stayed with me. We couldn’t share words, but we shared understanding.

That encounter changed my life.

I wanted to understand the Middle East more deeply, not just from books or headlines, but by living there, listening, and learning. So, I moved to Jordan.

Eventually, my path took me to Oman.

First, I taught English for three weeks on a remote oil site in the desert. Oman felt very different from Jordan, yet what captivated me was the quiet depth of its culture. Joussour to Oman grew out of that experience: a way to open doors into Oman’s beauty, culture, and creativity, and to provide the tools for others to capture their discoveries with the same sense of wonder.”

Fun Fact 1

As a child, I tried eating my paints to see if colours tasted different. For the record: they don’t!

Fun Fact 2

Early in my journalism career, I drank twelve cups of coffee a day (Italian press!). I felt fine until heart palpitations suggested otherwise.

Fun Fact 3

A bet with friends led to a solo military-style parachute jump — followed by a twisted ankle and two weeks on crutches.

Joussour to Oman is now my way of offering what I once looked for and couldn’t find—a place to explore Oman and Middle Eastern countries in an hands-on, immersive, and creative way.
