Review: Ramssa Omani Restaurant

July 5, 2024

This post gives you a full review of Ramssa restaurant, a traditional Omani restaurant in Al Qurum, Muscat. Based on my own experience as a regular customer.

It took me a while to discover Ramssa restaurant. I was looking for a tall order: a place that offered a traditional setting with tasty Omani dishes and reasonable prices. And I found it by chance! I saw its beautiful wooden door entrance and became curious (actually, I discovered that you enter through another door that is in glass…) but since, I have been coming at least once a week. After reading this post, you will know why.

Address: 2050 Way 2241 Muscat PC, 114

1) 3 Reasons why you should visit this place:

2) Getting there

Ramssa restaurant is one minute away from the beach near Shati Al Qurum (which means ‘the beach of Al Qurum’). It is situated in an area with small shops, cafés, and a car park. So you will be able to park your car in front of the restaurant or very near to it.

3) What does the name 'Ramssa' mean?

The Arabic word ‘Ramssa’ means ‘conversation’ or an informal talk. So it is an invitation to have a chat together with friends and family over good food.

4) Highlights

4.1 Organic salads and tasty Omani dishes

Ramssa restaurant beetroot salad

One of my favourite salads there is their beetroot salad. Simple, fresh ingredients.

Ramssa restaurant Mishkak and qaboli rice

An all-time favourite in Oman is mishkak (marinated cubes of meat on skewers) with Qabooli rice. Mishkak can be beef (as on the picture) or camel meat. Qabooli rice – also written kabouli – is always served in large portions and is very similar to biryani.  It is a combination of basmati rice, spices (cardamom, cloves, coriander), and fried onion. It can also include chick peas and nuts.

Here is the menu.

4.2 Friendly service

The waiters are extremely helpful. The owners regularly go round and have a chat with new and regular customers. This gives a friendly atmosphere that I really appreciate.

Ramssa restaurant Luqaimat dessert

A favourite dessert in Oman is luqaimat (served hot with date syrup). Really yummy!

4.3 Traditional decoration

Ramssa restaurant offers both tables and a place for people to sit and eat on the floor, if they wish to do so.

The place is colourful and informal. You will be able to sit around and talk for hours while discovering Omani cuisine. I highly recommend it!
